HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Ca (KIEM) – With Labor Day Weekend just a few days away, going hiking and soaking up the outdoors is an activity we all enjoy here on the North Coast. But the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office has tips for you On how to stay safe.

The Sheriff’s Office recommends: before you explore. Tell someone where you’re going and what your plan is. They also suggest you bring a change of clothes, food, water, and an emergency. And if you get lost while hiking: having a GPS tracking device is important so law enforcement can find you.

“The technology we have with a spot device, you can push a button. Law Enforcement is contacted. Whether it be the Coast Guard or CHP, can come in with a helicopter to help get you out. Or deputies on the ground that hike in and get you,” said Humboldt County Sheriff Sergeant Conan Moore.
