Eureka Mural Being Scraped Away, Will Return in 2020

Eureka, Ca. (KIEM) — If you have driven through Downtown Eureka in the last few days, you may have noticed that one of the murals is being scraped away.

We’re talking about the Duane Flatmo mural on the side of the Arkley Center for Performing Arts. Crews began working on peeling away patches of the mural on Thursday, but mural lovers don’t need to worry too much.

According to a press release from the Arkley Center, the back wall of the theater itself needs to be repaired. In order to fix years of water damage, they’re resealing the back wall. The only way to do that is to remove the mural first.

Right now, the plan is for the mural to be repainted by the artist in the spring of 2020.
