Coast Guard Rescues Two Men Near Eel River After an Hour Out at Sea

Eel River, Ca. (KIEM) — The U.S. Coast Guard rescues two men from a small island in the mouth of the Eel River. It happened Sunday night around 8:30 pm near Crab County Park.

The Coast Guard was alerted by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office that someone was stranded on an inaccessible island. Two men had washed ashore after their boat became disabled. They were wearing life jackets and believed they had been in the water for about an hour.

Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay dispatched helicopter crews. They picked up the two men and transferred them to emergency medical services at Murray Airport in Eureka.  They showed signs of hypothermia, but were otherwise uninjured.
