Arcata, Ca., (KIEM) A student run organization at Humboldt State University is reaching out and lending a helping to their local community.

The organization YES also known as Youth Educational Services is comprised of 13 different programs that are involved in a multitude of things. From tutoring, clean-ups, working with senior citizens, as well as additional services the community of Arcata may need.

The organization celebrated 51 years this year and its mission is to get involved, make a positive impact and for students to gain life-long skills.

What makes YES even more incredible said one of its members is that all students are volunteering for gratitude, not money or class credits.

“As a whole, we should all work together to create a better place. I don’t think we should work individually, we should work as a cooperative,” said HSU Kristen Romeis. “I always like to preach volunteering to everyone because I think it’s very beneficial to you and two other people and it’s just a great way to give back to people that will help you or have helped you.”

If you need help and are based in Arcata. You can reach the student-led volunteer program and the email yes@humboldt.edu  or call 707-826-4965.
