Fortuna Police Department Swears in New Officer

FORTUNA, Ca (KIEM) – The Fortuna Police Department swears in a new officer Thursday afternoon, adding to their short staff.

Thomas MacLeod is coming to the department with some experience. He is a 2013 graduate of the Redwoods Police Academy and recently worked for the Shasta County Marshall’s office.

Right now FPD is still down three officers. Staffing does not deter MacLeod. He’s ready to get started and hit the ground running.

“Amazing, getting to be back to my family. I lived in over in Redding while my wife and my daughter were living here. So get back with my family and working for a good agency. It’s awesome,” said Thomas McLeod, the new sworn in officer.

“He’s already shown that he’s got the dedication and commitment that we need here at the Fortuna Police Department. I think he’s going to be a great addition to the department and the community,” said William Dobberstein, Fortuna Police Chief.

Before MacLeod can patrol the streets, he still has to complete the rest of his sixteen weeks of training.
