Coast Guard rescues two firefighters in the Trinity Alps Wilderness Area

McKinleyville, Ca., (KIEM) Two Trinity County area firefighters are lucky Saturday after being rescued from a ridge near Canyon Creek in the Trinity Alps Wilderness Area early Friday morning.

The Coast Guard Humboldt Bay sector was contacted to assist in the rescue of the firefighters, Thursday night.

According to officials, while working of the Middle Fire. The two firefighters had been hit by falling rocks sustaining serious head, back and leg injuries.

The Coast Guard’s helicopter crew located the injured firefighters within 10 yards of the fire.

The two were flown to Weaverville airport and transferred to emergency medical services.
