DHHS to hold events and training for Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

Arcata, Ca., (KIEM) The month of September is coined Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.

This month the Humboldt County Department of Health & Human Services along with community partners are hosting events and trainings.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in Humboldt County will host its fifth annual Out of the Darkness Walk at the Arcata plaza.

Events this month also include a panel discussion on pain management, opioid medication tapering, and suicide risk.

The Healthy Communities Division of DHHS Public Health, organizes workshops throughout the year to help Humboldt residents recognize the warning signs of suicide.

Registration for the Out of the Darkness Walk starts at 9 AM, and the walk begins at 10 Sunday morning.
