9/11 Memorial Stair Climb Wednesday, AFD honors lives lost on September 11

Arcata, Ca., (KIEM) Local firefighters will climb the stairs of Founders Hall at Humboldt State University in full gear to honor the firefighters and first responders who lost their lives on September 11, and they want the community to join in.

Organizers decided Founders Hall would be the most fitting for the long staircase that will represent the 110 stories climbed by the 343 firefighters who died in New York City.

The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is a national event that Arcata Fire District firefighter Nick Hurn said he is proud and honored to be apart of.

“This was obviously a major event that impacted the entire country and all of us in the fire service, and the first responder community. I think this is a great way for us to get together to pause and reflect and think about that sacrifice that those made and think about the sacrifice that first responders continue to make on a daily basis.  This is a great way to come together, get in some good exercise, and get together with our community.”

The stair climb will be on  September 11 from 9 AM to noon at Founders Hall on the HSU campus.

Water will be provided.
