Caltrans Uses Car Counters on Eureka Roadways to Monitor Traffic

Eureka, Ca. (KIEM) — Caltrans is now using car counters to monitor traffic flow on the roadways in Eureka.

If you’ve driven down Broadway or 5th Street recently, you may have noticed the black hoses along the roads. These devices are conducting traffic counts both North and Southbound. It’s part of a routine inspection that they do every 3 years. They’re looking at how much traffic there is at certain intersections. Then, the data is analyzed and used to plan future projects.

According to Caltrans, the project couldn’t have come at a better time since they will be using the data they collect for upcoming safety improvements. For now, Caltrans isn’t sure how long the counters will be out on the roadways. To stay up to date on upcoming road improvement projects, you can visit the Caltrans website.
