Local Emergency Agencies Take Part in Active Shooter Training

Blue Lake, Ca. (KIEM) – On Thursday, local emergency agencies came together at the Blue Lake Casino and Hotel for an active shooter training scenario.

From 9 am to 1 pm police, fire, and ems crews ran through active shooter situations and what to do when they happen. There was a staging area set up inside of the hotel with people acting as shooting victims. Emergency personnel assessed the scene, set up triage, transported victims to nearby ambulances, and took all the steps they would in a real active shooter situation.

Arcata and Fortuna police, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, Yurok Tribal Police, and other local agencies participated. According to one of the instructors from the National Center for Biomedical Research and Training, it’s all about making sure that agencies are able to work together in emergency situations.
