Waterfront Trail will close for invasive species treatment

Eureka, Ca., (KIEM) – The Waterfront Trail from Del Norte to Truesdale St. will be closed on Friday.

PG&E and the city are planning treatments in the area as part of a cooperative project to restore wetlands.

The Common Reed, an extremely invasive plant species, will be removed with a combination of herbicides, string trimming and putting in native plants.

This treatment is determined to be the least environmentally damaging method to remove the common reed. Multiple treatments will be needed before native wetland plant species can be restored.
