City volunteers prepare to Beautify the city of Eureka

Eureka, Ca., (KIEM) Beautification and community building is what the city of Eureka is all about.

Tuesday an all-volunteer city group prepared for planting trees within the area this weekend.

Volunteers of the Keep Eureka Beautiful Street Tree Program used the day to prep nearly 100 trees for planting throughout the city streets.

Each tree was examined to see if its roots were healthy enough for planting.

Volunteers said the preparation took up to three hours. But it was all worth it said volunteer Michele McKeegan, as she shared, that trees have been proven to improve the community and your health.

“Trees do fabulous things. Trees slow traffic by narrowing the road, increase property values, they get kids and adults walking. It’s just a healthier, more beautiful city.”

On Saturday volunteers will meet at Wabash and F Street in Eureka to plant trees in the city. Beginning at 9 AM.
