Eureka, Ca. (KIEM) — The City of Eureka is celebrating good neighbor week here on the North Coast.

Did you know that 1 in 3 people don’t know the name of their neighbors? This statistic is the driving idea behind the city of Eureka’s good neighbor week.

It’s a week full of activities to encourage residents to get out and get to know others in the community. Joining in on the fun, Eureka police, St. Vincent de Paul dining facility, and Eureka Main Street held a community BBQ and resource fair to connect homeless or poverty stricken individuals with local resources.

There are other events planned throughout the week, but there are a few ways you can get involved. Things like learning a neighbor’s name you didn’t know before, leaving thank you notes for your neighbors, or hosting a block party.

Good neighbor week wraps up September 28th with a pie party at Hammond Park that kicks off at 3 pm.
