Man Arrested for Robbery While Armed with Machete

Eureka, Ca. (KIEM) — A man is arrested by Eureka Police for robbery while armed with a machete on Wednesday.

Shortly after 9:30 am, a City of Eureka code enforcement officer witnessed an altercation between two subjects on the 2100 block of Broadway. The aggressor was armed with a machete.

Upon arrivals, officers located 41-year-old Brian Ray Mello of eureka and detained him without further incident. He was still in possession of the machete. According to police, prior to the witnessed altercation Mello had approached the victim, threatened him with the machete and stole his bicycle.

When the victim attempted to take his bicycle back, Mello struck the victim with the machete. The victim sustained no injuries. Mello was taken into custody on charges of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
