DHHS Offers Mental Health Crises Training for Local Law Enforcement, Health Service Providers

Humboldt County, Ca. (KIEM) — Local law enforcement and mental health service providers are learning techniques to de-escalate mental health crises.

It’s all thanks to the Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services and other community partners. A 5-day training session wrapped up last week where participants learned how to interact with people experiencing mental illness while out in the field.

3 responders of the year were recognized at the training graduation ceremony: Cassie Lethin, Humboldt County correctional Sergeant Delia Garcia, and EPD officer Ryan Swanson. According to DHHS, nearly 450 people have completed the CIT course locally over the last 12 years.
