FPD Warning Residents of Phone Scam

Fortuna, Ca. (KIEM)- The Fortuna Police Department is warning residents of a phone scam alleging to be the Social Security Administration.

The department says the caller is apparently using fake numbers that come across as legitimate, when they are in face not.

Reports claim the individual calls the victim claiming to be an agent from the Social Security Administration and states a warrant has been issued for their arrest.

The perpetrator works with a colleague who then calls the victim from a number appearing to be FPD’s number and verifies what the perpetrator has just told the victim.

Officers want to remind you if you have a warrant they will appear in person. Also, the Social Security Administration and the police department will never call you by phone and ask for personal information. If you receive a similar call, hang up and immediately call FPD.
