Humpback Whale tangled, trapped on local beach

Samoa, Ca., (KIEM) The life of a young whale hangs in the balance of wildlife officials working to rescue it.

A 20 to 30-foot long, black Humpback Whale washed up on Samoa Peninsula.

Wildlife officials received a call around 10 Wednesday morning that a whale was stranded on the beach and entangled in fisherman netting.

When we arrived on the scene, animal and wildlife experts were attempting to rescue the whale but all attempts were unsuccessful.

Officials, however, were able to remove most if not all of the netting.

Residents were stunned.

We are not sure if the whale was able to return to the water.

We’ll keep you posted on this story as more information becomes available.
