EPD Officers Put Crisis Training to Use

EUREKA, Ca. (KIEM) – Eureka Police Department put their de-escalation training to use yesterday.

Officers responded to a scene where a female suspect was breaking motel windows and making suicidal threats with broken glass.

A county mental health worker and officers negotiated with the individual for more than an hour before she agreed to be transported for evaluation.

This incident comes after 11 EPD officers completed a 10 hour course on situations involving persons in crisis situations.

The department held its first in house De-Escalation and Tactical Communication train last Friday and is planning for additional courses in the future.
