CHP Encouraging Car Seat Safety

HUMBOLDT COUNTY (KIEM) – It’s an effort to keep kids safe while riding on the road.

CHP wants to make sure kids are safely secured while traveling through California’s roadways and the department is partnering with the Office of Traffic Safety.

Here in California, a child is required to be in a rear facing car seat till their two-years-old or if they reach forty pounds and forty inches. Children who are eight years old OR OLDER SHOULD ride in the back of a car in a properly fitted seat belt.

If a kid is not properly secured, parents could pay a hefty fine.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, having a car seat reduces fatal injuries by 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers.

Next week, CHP will be hosting a car seat safety workshop at the Target parking lot to help and educate parents on car seats.
