Eureka Man in Custody After Burglarizing a Residence

Eureka, Ca. (KIEM) — A Eureka man is behind bars for reportedly burglarizing a residence.

On Saturday, the Eureka Police Department responded to the 3100 block of Nevada Street for reports of a burglary in progress. According to EPD, the reporting party stated seeing a subject enter his neighbor’s residence.

Officers set up a perimeter around the residence and located a male subject inside of the house. Officers made several attempts to contact the subject with no response.

Deputies entered the residence and located 29-year-old William Arthur Martin hiding in a closet of a bedroom. While officers attempted to handcuff the 29-year-old, Martin became violet. He was kicking and punching officers. Deputies deployed a taser and placed Martin in custody.

Martin is booked on charges of burglary, resisting arrest, assault on a peace officer and being under the influence. His bail is set at $25,000.
