Fatal Collision on US 101 Closes Highway

MIRANDA, Ca. (KIEM) – A two car collision on Highway 101 in Southern Humboldt results in one person dead.

An SUV traveling southbound lost control of their vehicle and crossed into the northbound lane around 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27 near Salmon Creek Rd.

The SUV moved directly into the path of a Ford Excursion driven by 45-year-old Teresa Bowels of Healdsburg.

The vehicles collided head-on and came to rest blocking both northbound lanes.

The driver of the SUV succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency personnel transported the passenger of the SUV, who sustained major injuries, to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Eureka.

Bowels was transported to Jerold Phelps Hospital with moderate injuries.

The collision caused U.S. 101 to be close for approximately two hours.

Two separate non-injury collisions occurred in the immediate vicinity following the initial collision.
