Caltrans Blows Up Stump on Highway 1

MENDOCINO COUNTY, Ca. (KIEM) – Caltrans had an explosive day in Mendocino County during a stump removal project.

Leggett maintenance crews and Caltrans used explosives on Monday, Nov. 2 to blast the stump out of a hillside along Highway 1.

The large stump approximately 10 miles south of Leggett near Hales Grove has slowly been sliding down a hillside along the highway.

Caltrans determined the stump was beginning to encroach on the right side of the road, and became hazardous for drivers.
