California Attorney General’s Office Declines Prosecution for Josiah Lawson Case

Arcata, Ca. (KIEM)– The California Attorney General’s Office informed the Humboldt County District Attorney, Maggie Fleming, that they will not take on the David Josiah Lawson Case.

Humboldt State Student, David Josiah Lawson, was stabbed to death at a house party back in April of 2017.

According to the Attorney General’s Office, they will take cases if the County DA’s Office has a conflict of interest or when they have abused their discretion in handling the case. They felt neither of the conditions applied.

In response, DA Fleming said her office made the right decisions and took appropriate actions at every step in the Lawson Case. She said they will continue to prosecute all violent crimes in Humboldt County whenever possible.

Humboldt State commented about the former HSU student’s case:

“This was extremely disappointing news. Humboldt State University desperately wants to see Justice for Josiah. We all desire a resolution and healing for Josiah’s family and friends, and the campus community.”
