Chimney Fire Extinguished Thanks to Quick Action

McKinleyville, Ca. (KIEM) — An early morning chimney fire is doused by the quick response from fire crews.

Shortly before 7 o’clock Friday morning, Arcata Fire District responded to reports of flames coming from a chimney at the Grace Good Shepherd Church in McKinleyville.

Fire crews quickly arrived on scene and used a ladder to climb the steep-pitched roof. They sprayed water on the fire extinguishing the flames. Firefighters then gained access to the area around the stovepipe to ensure no fire had reached the attic area of the church.

Damage to the structure is estimated to be $5,000.
