Crab Season is Officially Here on the North Coast

Humboldt County, Ca. (KIEM) — The start of crab season on the North Coast is officially here and crabbers are returning to port in Eureka.

Many crabbers dropped their pots at midnight Monday night. This comes after the season was initially delayed for the third year in a row, something that some say has become the new normal.

Negotiations over the market price for crab had been going on for the last week and both agreed to $3 a pound. The tail end of the season has also been cut off, meaning all crabbers must be done by April 1st.

We were told the boats will continue to arrive Tuesday evening at the Eureka dock. While they are excited crab season is here, they said things were a little slower today than they expected.
