Eureka woman arrested for DUI Hit-and-Run after crashing into power pole

EUREKA, Ca (KIEM)-A woman is arrested after she crashes into a car and power pole knocking out electricity to over 3700 Eureka residents.

It happened just before 1pm Thursday near the intersection of West Buhne and Union Street. Eureka police said 23-year-old Kayla Kempton was driving a Toyota Tundra southbound on Union Street when she struck a car and collided with a power pole. She tried to flee but was arrested by officers.

Kempton was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on suspicion of driving under the influence, hit-and-run and driving while unlicensed.

The man driving the car was taken to the hospital for treatment.

PG&E crews expect to have power fully restored by 8pm Thursday.
