Arcata, Ca. (KIEM) — It’s official. The first baby born in 2020 has arrived here in Humboldt County.

At 6:11 pm on New Year’s Day, Alexander Venard made his debut into the world…making him the first baby born in Humboldt County in the New Year and the new decade.

He was born at Mad River Community Hospital weighing 8 pounds and measuring 20 and a half inches long. His mother’s due date was originally December 30th. Even though he was a few days late, his parents are happy that he is finally here.

His parents, Ashley and Woody Venard, aren’t originally from Humboldt County, but they met while attending HSU. They’ve lived here for the last 7 years and just bought a home in Eureka. This is the first child for the couple.

According to his mom Ashley, doctors had to perform a C-section because alexander’s oxygen levels were low, but is grateful for the great care she received from her doctor and the hospital.

Alexander and his parents will be leaving the hospital Saturday and going home to start their new life together.
