SACRAMENTO, Ca (KIEM)-Governor Gavin Newsom proposed a new $70 million budget for healthy school meals. A diverse coalition of organizations have been working on the proposal to invest in school nutrition. If signed into law, the budget would see a 40-percent increase in funding to help improve the quality of school meals.
This would support freshly prepared, locally grown food, and help fuel sustainability initiatives. Newsom’s proposal, if signed, would impact the budget for 2020-2021.
