Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is Seeking Deputies.

EUREKA, Ca. (KIEM)- The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is there to serve and protect the local community, but things are a little more difficult when they are facing a staffing shortage.  Currently, H.S.C.O. is down 17 full-time deputies. To make up for it, deputies are working 12-hour shifts and other over time.

The department is ramping up their recruitment efforts and are hoping to bring more people into the department.  A variety of factors play into why they are so short staffed-including recruitment struggles, retirement, and employee turnover.

The Sheriff’s Office is also working with the County and Board of Supervisors to increase wages and benefits for deputies.

According to Sheriff Honsal, H.S.C.O. covers such a large area and there are so many different roles that there is something for everyone.  If you’re interested in learning more about what it takes to become an H.S.C.O. deputy, you can contact the Sheriff’s Department.
