Eureka Intersection Safety Concerns and Improvements

EUREKA, Ca. (KIEM)- An intersection in Eureka is causing safety concerns, and the county is looking to find a solution. In the past three months, three separate accidents have plagued the corner at the intersection of Oak and F Street.

Right now, the county is surveying to determine the next step. They are also measuring current sight distance, recommendations in how to improve the sight distance, and accounting for traffic volume to determine if an all way stop would meet traffic volumes.

The county is proposing a potential four-way stop, which would cost hundreds of dollars. If the road has a high traffic volume, they will consider the installation of a stoplight- which would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. With the recent stop lights added along Broadway, residents are taking F Street as a short cut- increasing the traffic along the street.

The county will survey for the next two weeks to determine the best possible solution and then will go to the board of supervisors to get approval and from there they can begin installing traffic signs. So, you can expect to see changes in roughly two months.
