Police Dispatch Overrun with Phone Calls

EUREKA, Ca. (KIEM)-With the unexpected power outage on Friday morning Eureka Police Department saw an influx of calls coming into their dispatch center.

EPD says that a high volume of calls when the power went out, which impacted their dispatch center. At the time of the outage, only two dispatchers were on duty.

Dispatch handles calls that range from: medical emergencies, crime, and service calls. Police say that it is during these times where they see their dispatch center become very busy. Non-emergency calls can impact how they are able service the community.

The Eureka Police Department says that another good resource to turn during a time like this  is the county Office of Emergency Services website or Facebook page, or even checking PG& E’s website for information about outages.
