Coats for the Cold Gives the Gift of Warmth

Eureka, Ca. (KIEM) — With the winter weather slamming the North Coast lately, one community group is doing their part to make sure that everyone has a warm coat to wear.

Coats for the cold was out at Rainbow Self-Storage Wednesday distributing jackets for those who may not have one or can’t afford them. Roughly 1,500 people received coats Wednesday morning and they hope to give out close to 3,500 by the end of the month.

Volunteers from the Arcata House Partnership and Humboldt Adult and Teen Challenge were out helping as well. All of the warm jackets are donations that come from all over the county — from McKinleyville to Garberville.

Robert Lohn started doing this 12 years ago. He says the secret to continuing to do it year after year is the tremendous support he has received from the local community.

For a full list of locations where you can donate, you can check out group’s website – www.coatsforthecold.org. Donations will be accepted until the end of the month.
