Field’s Landing Man Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter After Driving Drunk into Humboldt Hill Home

FIELDS LANDING, Ca. (KIEM) – A Fields Landing man who killed another man while driving drunk pled guilty today in Humboldt County court.

Back on June 28th, 25 year-old Ryder Stapp was driving under the influence of alcohol- nearly three times the legal limit-and smashed his truck into Bob Beland’s Humboldt Hill home killing him while he was in bed. Stapp was driving his truck at a reported 86 miles an hour. The speed limit is 35 miles per hour.

Stapp admitted to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and hit-and-run.  As part of a plea agreement, he could serve up to 11 years in prison and serve at least five years to be eligible for parole.

Stapp’s sentencing is scheduled for February 25th.

His attorney says that Stapp wants to express his sorrow to the community for all the damage that he has caused. fffff
