Eureka High School Breaks Ground For New Gymnasium

Eureka, Ca. (KIEM)– Eureka High School is one step closer to enjoying their new gym.

Construction on the new Jay Willard Gymnasium at Eureka High School is now underway after a groundbreaking ceremony Friday.

The new twenty-million dollar facility will include a basketball court, two practice courts, and a wrestling and weight room.

With Measure S, the school was able to take out local dollars and leverage those with state dollars. With the millions of dollars coming in from Sacramento and matching local, it made the gymnasium possible.

After the new gym is constructed, the old Jay Willard Gym will be torn down and used as a new athletic area for physical education.

The new gym will be constructed in front of the current gym on J Street and is expected to be completed by fall of 2021.
