Facebook Mask Makers Helping Communities

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Ca (KIEM)- Humboldt Coronavirus Mask Makers is a Facebook group that was created on March 19, just a little over one week ago.

With already over 2 thousand members this group formed for seamstresses and others who want to support local and national clinics and hospitals amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The handmade masks do not replace medical-grade procedures and n-95 masks. They are to be used to augment supplies for medical staff and providers and can extend the use of an n-95 mask.

Yesterday this group donated over 100 handmade masks to the Mad River Community Hospital and continues to donate locally and nationally.

Members are not just from Humboldt County, they have helpers from Oklahoma, Arizona, North Dakota and from all over this great country.

They are posting instructional videos, tips, and tricks for sewing, and requests from organizations who are in need. They are figuring out how to share supplies and get masks where they need to be all the while social distancing and sheltering in place.
