Eureka police officer involved in crash

EUREKA, Ca. (KIEM)-A Eureka Police Officer and woman are expected to be OK tonight after their cars collided.

The crash happened just after six Thursday evening. 

The intersection of California and West Hawthorne Streets were briefly blocked while law enforcement officers conducted their investigation.

The police interceptor appeared to have damage to the driver side door, front fender and wheel axle and inoperable.

The woman’s Chevy Sedan sustained damage to the front of the car end bumper.

The Eureka police handed the investigation over to the Californian State Highway Patrol.

Sgt. Eddie Wilson with Eureka police was there.

“We were dispatched just a little bit ago to the intersection of California and West Hawthorne of a report of a traffic collision that involved an on-duty patrol officer from the Eureka Police Department. When we got here we found he was out of the vehicle and had a complaint of pain but was not injured, neither was the other driver, civilian driver.

“What we can tell from the investigation so far, which was handed over to the State Highway Patrol, as our officer was driving south on California Street the other vehicle was traveling east on West Hawthorne at the time of the collision.

“It’s still under investigation at this point and being handled by CHP.”
