HCSO Addresses How They’re Enforcing Domestic Violence Calls during Shelter in Place

Humboldt County, Ca. (KIEM) — The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is shedding some light on how they are responding to domestic violence calls amid the shelter in place mandate.

Domestic violence laws are still on the books, and the local health emergency and shelter in place order have no effect on how HCSO responds to calls. Deputies are using caution during any face-to-face contact, but if violence is used HCSO is mandated to take enforcement action. They will continue to go out, take reports and make arrests if needed.

If you have an active case with the district attorney’s office, they are still open and able to help you with any ongoing issues. Sheriff Honsal says they have not seen an increase in domestic violence calls, but are expecting that to change moving forward.

HCSO urges residents to take advantage of local resources like the domestic violence hotline, which is available 24/7. (707) 443-6042.
