EUREKA, Ca. (KIEM)-Eureka Mayor’s Message: Support Youngest Residents, Food Resources

In the spirit of “The Week of the Young Child” Eureka’s Mayor is encouraging the community to support the youngest residents, the children, and also their caretakers.

“I want to take a moment to consider supporting our youngest citizens and those who care for them.” Mayor Susan Seaman said. “April 11 to 17th, is the Week of the Young Child.”

Keeping in theme, the City of Eureka is offering online encouragement days throughout the week.

Music Monday, tasty Tuesday, work together Wednesday, artsy Thursday and family Friday.

Their messages can be found on Facebook and Instagram by using the hashtag, #eurekawoyc.

“We’re inviting you to decorate your windows to provide an encouraging, social distance friendly, I-Spy activity,” she said.

The kids can decide for themselves how to decorate their windows, but are encouraged to stick with theme and add a new element every day.

“We’ll be starting the week of our window design with a teddy bear,” the mayor said.

Teddy Bears symbolize to kids across the country that they are not alone during a health crisis.

And for the families facing food insecurities, Eureka City Schools and surrounding school districts are providing free meals.

“Eureka City Schools provide breakfast and lunch on Monday, Wednesday and Friday,” Mayor Susan Seaman said. “Meals for two days will be provided on Mondays and Wednesdays.”

Students apart of another school district should go to their district’s website.
