Humboldt County, Ca. (KIEM) — Dr. Frankovich understands North Coast residents are tired of being stuck at home, but is once again stressing the importance of sheltering in place.

Things are moving along. Thanks to Governor Newsom’s coronavirus task force, the county is getting access to much needed supplies.

This includes an alternative care site with 100 beds at Redwood Acres Fairgrounds, but community members should understand that it’s a necessary step laid out by the state in order for restrictions to start being lifted.

Plans are also in place to open a new community testing site in Eureka. Eventually, Public Health’s goal is to be able to test as many people as possible that are asymptomatic. For now, their focus is on high-risk groups like first responders or health care workers.

With an increase in the number of beds available in the county, the question has been raised on whether or not we have enough health care workers. DHHS is working with health care providers and also their volunteer network to make sure they don’t reach that point.
