Humboldt County, Ca. (KIEM) — As Humboldt County prepares to get back to some sense of normalcy, all eyes are on testing.

When it comes to testing guidelines laid out by the state, locally we’re there, but more can be done. The goal is to test 1 person per thousand residents on a daily basis, meaning Public Health would need to run 135 tests a day. According to Dr. Frankovich, this is doable and just one way to show the county is ready to reopen.

When it comes to the different kinds of tests used for Covid-19, there are a few options. Public health is working to get a less invasive test available for community members.

As far as antibody, or surveillance testing, it is being rolled out on the north coast. Public health wants to stress there are some things about the results that are unknown. Residents should not rely on these tests to tell them if they are immune or can move around freely without worry.
