Flower shop counting on Mother’s Day

EUREKA, Ca. (KIEM,)-California now in stage 2 of modifying the state’s “stay-at-home” order allows flower shops to open their doors, as long as they offer curbside.

Eureka Florists in Eureka has been busy filling orders for the past two weeks, just in time for mom’s special day.

Fin Ferguson and Gwen Price say they want to support their local farmers by buying flowers from North Coast vendors but because of layoffs resulting in a shortage of flower production, finding an array of flowers has been challenging.

With about 200 orders to fill, they say customers have been understanding, some even adjusting their floral arrangement order to coincide with what the floral shop has on hand.

For now, both are grateful to be open, adding that giving flowers is the next best thing to giving a hug.

Fergusson and Price say Eureka Florist donates a portion of their proceeds to the theater community and the organization “Friends for Life.
