Coast Guard Flyover Honors Healthcare Workers

Eureka, Ca. (KIEM)– Today a Coast Guard helicopter flew over St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka to honor local hospital workers and first responders.

Inspired by the Blue Angles flyover in New York City and Washington D.C., McKinleyville resident Dennis Mayo reached out to the Coast Guard and pitched the idea of a flying over North Coast hospitals as an expression of thanks and gratitude for caring for the community during these unprecedented times.

In attendance where members of the Eureka Police Department, Humboldt Fire, City Ambulance, doctors and nurses.

Dr. Roberta Luskin-Hawk, Chief Executive for St. Joseph Health in Humboldt County said, “This is hospital week, so really good way to finish up are celebration of all those people who put themselves on the front line and all the people that support them.”

The Coast Guard is the latest military service to continue a recent trend of saluting those on the front lines of COVID-19.
