Due to Covid-19, Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District Recommends Businesses Flush Out Pipes

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Ca. (KIEM) – The Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District recommends buildings that have been shut down due to covid-19 flush out your pipes before using them.

Water that is left sitting in pipes for long periods could contain increased amounts of bacteria.

Start with completely opening all faucets at once, including showers, flushing toilets, sinks etc.

This should be done for approximately 15 minutes.

Next, close all faucets, then go back through the building and open, then flush individual faucets one at a time.

If your business has tank water heaters, you may want to check with the manufacturer for flushing instructions and procedures.

Also, be sure to run hot water through the taps until the water gets to full heat, and then for a few minutes after that.
