Second Big Rig truck crash in less than a week closes 5th Street in Eureka

EUREKA, Ca (KIEM)-For the second straight week, a main Eureka roadway is closed for several hours due to a traffic collision involving a semi-truck.

Just before noon Monday, an 18-wheel truck carrying coco peat moss was making the turn from Broadway onto 5th Street when for unknown reasons, landed on its side. The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries and transported to St. Joseph’s hospital for treatment.

It’s the same location just five days ago where emergency personnel responded for a similar crash involving a semi-truck that landed on its side.

Crews quickly contained fluids that leaked out from the truck and Caltrans and Environmental Health were notified.
