Humboldt County, Ca. (KIEM) — The Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services continues to tackle the issue homelessness amid Covid-19, including social distancing and other safety measures at our local shelters.
The department is in contact with local organizations such as the Eureka Rescue Mission, St. Vincent de Paul Dining Facility, and Betty Chinn to help them navigate outreach efforts while also keeping safety measures in mind. There hasn’t been a limit set on how many people are allowed at the shelters, but there are suggestions on how meals are distributed and the best ways to ensure physical distance.
DHHS is also working with local service providers, like open door, to screen homeless individuals for Covid-19 symptoms. In addition, they are also assisting with transportation to testing and lodging during isolation.
As part of their efforts to increase access to hygiene opportunities, hand washing stations have been placed at various locations across the county.
