EUREKA, Ca (KIEM) – The Eureka Police Department’s Community Safety Enhancement Team works with the homeless community on a daily basis, but throughout the COVID-19 pandemic they have been hands-on when it comes to assisting local shelters.

CSET consists of one sergeant, four officers and outreach personnel who, before COVID-19 hit, worked with the homeless community daily. Although routine procedures have not changed for them, they have paid close attention to COVID prevention in the homeless community as they assist local shelters in serving food and essential items.

CSET communicates with St. Vincent De Paul, the Eureka Rescue Mission, the Betty Kwan Chinn foundation and UPLIFT Eureka on a daily basis as they are actively working to ensure the homeless community is provided help when necessary.

Local shelters and CSET continue to serve the homeless community on a daily basis, but as COVID -19 numbers increase they want to ensure that high risk communities like the homeless are being tended to as well.
