EPD Captain and protestors speak on “Stand Against Police Brutality: Justice For George Floyd” protest

EUREKA, Ca (KIEM) – The Eureka Police Department and Humboldt Sheriff’s Deputy’s staged two blocks away from the Humboldt County Courthouse where protesters made their way. Police dispersed when tensions began to rise and protesters followed suit.

According to EPD, police cruisers were damaged and protesters blocked streets as traffic was stopped.

EPD Captain Brian Stephens says what happened to George Floyd is wrong, people have the right to protest peacefully and get their frustrations out. However, damaging property is not ok.

Protestors, Ra McBride and Tori Duruthnathron, spoke about why they chose to participate in the “Stand Against Police Brutality” at the courthouse.
