Legendary HSU coach passes away at age 82

ARCATA, Ca (KIEM) – Former Humboldt State University Coach Frank Cheek passed away at the age of 82.

Considered a legend, Cheek spent 22 years coaching HSU’s wrestling team and 25 years coaching softball.

Fifteen of the Lumberjack wrestling and softball teams Cheek coached, ranked top ten in the nation.

Cheek led several of his teams into national championships and coached a handful of student-athletes inducted into HSU’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

Most recently, he was inducted into the CCAA hall of fame.

Known for his loyalty and humor, cheek will be missed by many.
