“Possible serial killer” arrested for murder of Cutten man

EUREKA, Ca (KIEM) – A possible serial killer in the making. That’s what Eureka Police Chief Watson said today about a man in custody authorities believe is responsible for a string of stabbings in the area.

Watson used that shocking phrase to describe Wesley Lee Starritt, the man arrested for the murder of Roger “Mitch” Clark in his Cutten home two weeks ago.

Watson laid out the chronological timeline of Starritt’s violent actions at today’s press conference.

He said prior to the Clark homicide case, two other residents were victims of what police are calling unprovoked stabbing attempts, one involving a 43-year-old man and another a 38-year-old women, both of which took place in Eureka.

Last week, Starritt was taken into custody on unrelated charges.

But, it wasn’t until yesterday that Starritt was formally arrested as a person of interest for the murder of Clark.

Starritt has also been placed in custody for the attempted homicide of a woman in Cooper Gulch last month.

Although we are still awaiting the formal charges, Starritt is currently being held at the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. His bail is set at more than 1.5 million dollars.

According to Watson, Starritt’s motive was to kill.
