Two HSU students suspended, after racist post surfaces

ARCATA, Ca (KIEM) – Two Humboldt State University students have been suspended from their campus organizations after racist posts were recently discovered on social media.

The male student was not identified, but the other is Marley Peri who publicly released an apology statement on Twitter.

The video posted to social media shows three white people using the n-word, repetitively, within a 10-second clip.

Peri’s apology statement read, in part…

“There can be no excuse for my actions. I know an apology will never undo the hurt I have caused. But it is a place to start. I am ashamed of my actions, this is not the way I was raised. I am deeply sorry to the person who received the video, to everyone who saw it subsequently, and to the African American community…”

In a press release, HSU stated it is important the campus community is aware that such behaviors are taken seriously and students are held accountable.

The incident is pending a student-conduct investigation.
